Choosing the right size tipi

We make our tipis in sizes; 14′ 16′ 18′ 21′ and 24′ (feet) diameter as standard sizes, we make larger by special order.

If you have never spent time in a tipi you might find it difficult to imagine how big they can be, and just how many people you can fit into them.

In making the right choice for your tipi hire or purchase, there are a few considerations to be taken into account. Simple enough, but worthy of consideration for a comfortable experience;

Apart from the obvious number of people you wish to seat or accomodate, and dependent on its use; what extra space will be required for storage of baggage or belongings? what cooking equipment if any will be used and stored indoors? will you want seating or beds? will you have the central fire?Is the tipi for camping or semi/permanent living? Just a summer house in the garden?

Basically, allow for a bit more space in your size choice if you’ve a lot to fit in, unless you prefer it on the cosy side…

Black Elk Oglala Sioux Holy Man

“You have noticed that everything as Indian does is in a circle, and that is because the Power of the World always works in circles, and everything tries to be round….. The Sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nest in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours….
Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves”.
